Blue Cat Cafe
95 Navasota St, Austin, TX 78702
There is a $5 cover to get in this place. That's fair since they use it to take care of the kittens. There's a vegan food truck. There are a few gluten-free options, which is nice, but many of the foods are soy-based. I know some people have a problem with soy for various reasons, that's a *just fyi* thing. There are a few kids menu items, and you can also get some coffee drinks, teas, lemonades or hot cider. Yay coffee!
If you're eating, there is hand sanitizer on every table. There are also stuffed cats and tabletop games strewn about. Cute.
The place has plenty of cat toys to keep the cats entertained, and the cats are adoptable. They come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. The unfortunate thing is that because a lot of the cats aren't super sociable. A lot of them tend to hang out in the little jungle gym near the ceiling. Even if you get a cat to interact with you, they are usually shortly thereafter scared away by children. Of course this could be a good place to bring your children, but I believe that hinders the cats state of minds a little bit since children aren't always the best at gentle handling of the cats.
I went with a friend that we like to refer to as "the cat whisperer." A cat fell asleep in his lap, but it turns out it was one of the cats that isn't available for adoption. His name is Balphy, and he has a collar with skulls and crossbones. I'm thinking it may be one of the workers' cats. Whatever the reason, he is a welcome friendly addition. And the good thing is, you can buy some cat treats to lure the cats over to you!
